Tip of the Week!

Rat terrier puppy, Clan Clark's Sir Odin.

Your puppy looks to you for direction and safety.

Here’s your “Tip of the Week” :

Leash walk every day…
Take your puppy out for a leash walk every day. Walking with your puppy on a leash is the best way for you to set up a wonderful relationship with your puppy. You have a responsibility to be in control of where you go, how fast and when to stop, so your puppy will get in the habit of following your lead. As you walk more often with your puppy he will start to look to you for direction and security.

This ‘Tip’ was taken from the home page of the website “Train Your New Puppy.” There is a LOT of reasons to take your dog or puppy for a walk on a leash every day.
One of the best is, it tires them out so you are less likely to have chewing, nipping or general nuisance issues.
They will also come to see you as ‘the one in charge’, so they will look to you for direction if things get a bit challenging for them.
Your puppy’s training will become a lot easier when you develop a routine of walking every day. Walking builds a good report with you and your  pup or dog.

Make your leash walks FUN for you and your puppy. Walk at a brisk pace, keep your eyes up and on the landscape. Walk with confidence! You confidence will travel down the leash to your pup and give him what he needs to accept some of the new and scary things you may meet during his walks and training.
